Scotiabank is stepping up its game with the launch of Make It Merch, an exciting initiative aimed at empowering hockey fans to express their team loyalty in their own unique way. This innovative campaign invites fans to customize any piece of clothing with select NHL team patches, transforming everyday attire into spirited fan gear.
The concept behind Make It Merch is rooted in the understanding that being a fan is about more than just wearing a jersey – it’s about showing support for your team in a way that reflects your personal style and commitment. With customizable merch becoming increasingly popular across sports, Make It Merch offers hockey enthusiasts a fun and creative way to showcase their team pride during the playoffs and beyond.
As part of Scotiabank’s broader commitment to improving accessibility and inclusivity in hockey through its hockey for all initiative, patches will be available for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, and Edmonton Oilers in select branches across Canada. This initiative aligns with Scotiabank’s sponsorship of three NHL teams heading into the playoffs, emphasizing the bank’s dedication to supporting hockey at all levels.
John Rocco, vice-president of global brand management at Scotiabank, emphasizes the importance of Make It Merch in tapping into the passion and individuality of hockey fandom. “Hockey fans across Canada are deeply passionate, and there is no time like the playoffs for fans to come together as a community to support their team,” says Rocco.
Michelle Spivak, group creative director at Rethink, highlights the fan-centric approach of Make It Merch, stating, “Make It Merch is rooted in fandom, and invites fans to show off their team pride and personal style in a unique way.” The campaign encourages fans to get creative with their merch, whether it’s customizing hats, sweaters, coats, or even pajamas.
To make the customization process even more accessible, select Scotiabank branches in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Edmonton will offer “At-Home Kits” containing patches for fans to personalize their clothing at their convenience. Additionally, Scotiabank has teamed up with Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) to host a Tailgate event at Maple Leaf Square during Round 1, where fans can transform their existing gear into unique merch.
With its dynamic approach and focus on fan engagement, Make It Merch promises to ignite the passion of hockey fans across Canada during the NHL Playoffs. From social media to in-branch activations, this campaign embodies the excitement and spirit of playoff hockey, bringing fans together to celebrate their love for the game in style.
