Forsman & Bodenfors has launched a novel campaign for Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, utilizing music to convey the luxury hotel’s reopening. The campaign centers around the debut of “The Exceptional Bay Symphony,” a musical composition inspired by the breathtaking view from the exclusive penthouse suite on the 23rd floor of the renovated Mandarin Oriental, Singapore.
The Royal Marina Bay Penthouse, spanning 380 sqm with four bedrooms, offers an unparalleled panoramic view of the Marina Bay skyline and South China Sea from its expansive balcony. To celebrate this unique perspective, Mandarin Oriental, Singapore invited accomplished musicians to compose a symphony, resulting in “The Exceptional Bay Symphony,” a bespoke piece of music created to mark the launch of the penthouse.
The symphony, initially composed on piano and later adapted for a full orchestra, translates the captivating view into a melodic narrative. The film accompanying the campaign showcases the composer, award-winning pianist Jonathan Shin, and the orchestra’s experience of the view, culminating in a performance of “The Exceptional Bay Symphony” within the Royal Marina Bay Penthouse.
Ivan Guerra, Group Creative Director at Forsman & Bodenfors, explained that the use of music aims to convey the indescribable emotion associated with experiencing the exclusive penthouse view. The symphony becomes a powerful and beautiful means of connecting with audiences, commemorating 36 years of Mandarin Oriental, Singapore’s legacy and heralding a new era.
Composer Jonathan Shin expressed his desire to capture the awe and wonder inspired by the panoramic view in the music. The symphony is performed by the Orchestra of The Music Makers (OMM), a team of Singapore’s talented volunteer musicians known for their versatility across various musical styles.
The Royal Marina Bay Penthouse, designed by Jeffrey Wilkes, is described as a ‘suite designed for a view,’ offering a double frontage view from every window. The expansive balcony and elegantly decorated living spaces provide different perspectives of the Marina Bay skyline, making it one of the most sought-after views in Singapore.
Philipp Knuepfer, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Singapore & Area Vice President, Operations, emphasized that “The Exceptional Bay Symphony” symbolizes the spirit of Singapore, marking a milestone in the hotel’s transformation after a six-month multi-million-dollar renovation. The symphony contributes to the ongoing celebration of Mandarin Oriental, Singapore’s recent reopening.
