Ahead of National Trails Day (June 6), Vermont-based Long Trail Brewing Co. is launching a campaign that celebrates trail culture and hiker milestones, promotes conservation, and features the largest commercially available beer pack brewed this side of the Mississippi.
Inspired by the brewery’s namesake, the Long Trail – a 273-mile famed hiking route running up the rugged spine of Vermont’s Green Mountains from the Massachusetts border to Canada – the packaging design for the “Realllly Long Trail Pack” includes a 273-centimeter scale trail map, with one cm representing each mile of the Long Trail; an elevation profile showing the ascents and descents you’d experience along the journey (about 70,000 feet of climbing); and notable landmarks (including the location of the brewery).
Created in partnership with indie creative agency GYK, the 6-foot-long pack contains 168 cans (7 full cases) of the newly refreshed Long Trail Ale, and reminds fans to “Take a Hike!” and get out there, enjoy the trails, and celebrate with a great beer afterwards. Limited-edition packs are available for purchase at the brewery and a local VT retailer.
Long Trail’s National Trails Day campaign also features:
- A new hiking rewards program encouraging hikers to complete 10, 25, 50, or 100 hikes to unlock exclusive custom rewards and commemorative “badge” patches, plus a special medal for those who complete 100 hikes
- A National Trails Day party at the brewery with live music, trail mix stations, and the return of “Hit the Trail” Brown Ale
- A $15K donation to local conservation-focused organizations as part of Long Trail’s “Ales for Trails” initiative
- Content partnerships with Vermont outdoor enthusiasts and trail advocates like Alaina Pinto (@alainapinto), Mirna Valerio (@themirnavator), Nick Fairall (@nick_fairall), and others
“At Long Trail, the outdoors aren’t just part of our branding, they’re part of who we are,” said Rob Day, VP of Marketing for Barrel One Collective. “The Long Trail has inspired this brewery since day one, and National Trails Day felt like the perfect opportunity to celebrate the people, places, and experiences that make Vermont trail culture so special. From creating a one-of-a-kind beer pack that quite literally lives up to our name, to supporting organizations that help preserve trail access, everything about this campaign is designed to encourage people to Take a Hike!, and enjoy the adventure.”
Long Trail Brewing has spent more than three decades crafting beers rooted in Vermont adventure and outdoor culture. Through this year’s National Trails Day campaign, the brewery hopes to inspire even more people to hit the trails, celebrate the outdoors, and enjoy a well-earned beer afterward.
