Winners of the Winter Shiny Awards screened and were awarded at Saatchi’s London office this Tuesday, chosen from 18 inspiring films by leading emerging director talent.
Saatchi’s CPO Jess Ringshall opened the event and talked about the strong relationship built over the years between Shiny, Saatchi, the New Creators Awards & Shiny, and about the great talent that has been helped into the industry because of these.
18 films very diverse films screened, from work interweaving drama & choreography, through highly skilled effects & edits and thumb-stoppingly striking infra-red camerawork, and covering deep-dive insights into micro-worlds, superb advice for managers, and an undefinable story about eggs. Or chickens.
As per Shiny’s commitment to move the needle on director diversity, over 70% of the shortlist (72% actually) were films by directors from under-represented demographics.
The vibe was great, with plenty of praise for the selections – judged from nearly 300 entries worldwide by Shiny’s company members, spanning production companies, creative studios, post houses, social agencies, creative agencies and many more.
4 winners were announced – each getting a meeting with one of the 4 Saatchi judges (Jess Ringshall, CPO, Izzy Woods Senior Producer, Rory Peyton Jones, Creative Director, Elliot Lee, Creative Director) Paranoia also done a free grade with top flight post house, Selected Works, and Joseph Morel won an incredible non-exclusive global representation deal with Directors Without Borders, part of Global Production Network.
Thanks to Saatchi’s excellent hosting and the proximity of The Pregnant Man bar next door, networking carried on well into the evening.
Here’s the screening list – no doubt containing quite a few future star directors!
