Global, the prominent Media and Entertainment conglomerate, has revealed Simon Pitts as its upcoming Group Chief Executive, slated to assume the position in the first quarter of the coming year. Pitts will succeed Stephen Miron, who recently disclosed his decision to step down from his 16-year tenure as Group Chief Executive to take on the role of Global’s Chairman.
Pitts brings with him a wealth of experience, having served as CEO at STV since 2018. Prior to this role, he held various key positions during his 17-year tenure at ITV, including a seven-year stint on the executive board. His roles encompassed Director of Strategy & Transformation as well as Managing Director of online, pay TV, interactive, and technology divisions.
Ashley Tabor-King CBE, the founder and Executive President of Global, expressed his delight in Pitts’ appointment, citing his remarkable leadership, growth strategies, and transformative initiatives. Tabor-King highlighted Pitts’ successful track record at STV, where he spearheaded a significant transformation, diversifying revenues and expanding business operations to include a thriving streaming service and leading studios group alongside traditional linear broadcast services. Tabor-King emphasized Pitts’ relevance to Global, given his experience in a similar business landscape. Pitts is slated to assume his new role in Q1 2025.
In response, Pitts conveyed his excitement in joining Global, a company he has long admired. He praised the company’s diverse portfolio, which combines digital, audio, and outdoor elements with beloved radio stations in the UK, fostering a strong connection with its audience. Pitts also commended Global’s entrepreneurial spirit despite its established success, viewing it as a stimulating environment to drive innovation and growth. He expressed eagerness to collaborate with Ashley Tabor-King and the entire Global team in shaping the company’s future trajectory. Additionally, Pitts acknowledged the invaluable guidance he anticipates from Stephen Miron and Charles Allen in their respective roles.
Stephen Miron, in his capacity as Global’s departing Group CEO, endorsed Pitts as his successor, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the company forward. Miron looks forward to collaborating with Pitts in his new role as Chairman, as Global embarks on its next phase of growth.
Simon Pitts is scheduled to assume his position in Q1 2025, with the exact commencement date to be determined later. Until Pitts assumes his role, Stephen Miron will continue to serve as Group CEO, transitioning to the role of Chairman upon Pitts’ arrival. Lord Charles Allen, the current Chairman of Global for 17 years, will transition to the role of Senior Non-Executive Director at that time.
