The selection of the best entries from new & under-represented directors worldwide worldwide, spanning spec ads, branded content and music videos were screened at a full-to-bursting event at Tag Collective Arts.
It was Shiny’s first foray into mainland Europe (they’ve already run Shinies in New York & Los Angeles), and their judges represented some leading names in Amsterdam’s commercial production industry. Oatly’s EP Billy Linker, Dark Arts agency founder Colin Lamberton, and Gary Szabo, Chief Creative Officer at Tag Collective Arts, who stood in for Booking.com’s Margaret Chudy, announced the three winners as follows:

  • “onetwostep ft (juicelover)” for des hume, directed by Jordan Clarke. “…innovative, smart storytelling, great amount of craft and engagement due to the innovative visual approach…” Jordan wins an hour of career advice with leading production company, CANADA, and 2 hours career advice with world-class director reps, Lemonade Reps
  • “Lady Painmaker” for Femannose (spec ad),directed by Vanessa Stachel, “…brave, engaging visually, storytelling and insight has been nailed…” Vanessa wins an hours career advice with leading production company Odelay, and lunch with live action/ VFX/ animation production specialists, The Berry.
  • “Flowers Before You Die” for Fleurop AG, directed by Hanna Lange, “…really made me laugh, and changed the way I think about flowers/men etc…” Hanna wins a week shadowing one of FAMILIA’s commercial directors, and a bespoke deck of location options for her next film from LS Productions.

Shiny’s founder Caroline Bottomley said ‘It’s been a lovely experience to work with Tag for these awards. It’s our first time in Amsterdam and Tag have made Shiny so welcome. They have a beautiful building and a great team.

Donna Head, Tag Collective Arts’ EP said ‘We had great time with Shiny, showing the work of some really exciting new directors and finding out who were chosen as winners. We’re very proud to support new & under-represented directors who are making their way in the industry.’

Shiny is uniquely dedicated to discovering new director talent and ensuring a fair platform for under-represented voices. 80% of the shortlist screened last night was from under-represented directors, here’s who they are and what they won:
