Raising awareness for how the world can end plastic waste through innovation.
Environmental non-profit Parley for the Oceans and adidas (XETRA:ADS.DE -1.98%)have teamed up once again to deliver a full-size sustainable tennis court in the middle of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Over the past years, Australia as a whole has been severely impacted by climate change with the alarming rise in bushfires as well as coral bleaching of its reefs. The project aims to raise awareness and ignite discussion for how the world can end Plastic Waste.
adidas worked with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) to transform the surface of one of its floating barges into a tennis court surface in which four of the brand’s star athletes played a match in the new Parley x adidas tennis gear inspired by the colors of the reef.
The platform is seen in navy-on-white hues with “Plastic waste is a problem. Innovation is our solution,” printed on the sides. Following the campaign, adidas will donate the tennis court to a local school, repurposing the material into a sports court.
The adidas and Parley collaboration stretches back to 2015, and adidas pledges to eliminate virgin polyester from all of its products by the end of 2025.
The apparel made with Parley Ocean Plastic will make another appearance throughout the Australian Open in Melbourne this month, and is now available on the adidas AU website.
