Skateboarding has always been about seeing the city differently, turning handrails into canvases, schoolyards into stages, and empty sidewalks into possibilities. In Not Just Another Day, creative agency SUPERHEROES and Lenovo Yoga x AMD tap into that spirit of reinvention with a live-action x generative VFX skate film that pushes the culture forward without losing its grip tape grit. Part of the ongoing Made with Lenovo Yoga platform, the project pairs three skaters with three AI artists to reimagine the skate video from the inside out.
Pro skaters Monica Torres, Yuri Facchini, and Gage Boyles spent two days chasing the perfect session across LA, from schoolyards and ditches to parking lots and Venice Beach. Every ollie, every kickflip, every grind is real. But the world around them? That’s where things get a little magical. AI artists, including Ceej Vega, Jon Uriarte, and Holden Boyles, elevated the skaters’ real tricks into a surreal, game-like world.
The production itself mirrors skateboarding’s experimental spirit. The team shot with a core skate crew to keep it genuine, then used newly available AI tools to create generative VFX—technology that literally didn’t exist a few months ago—to add a captivating layer of storytelling.
“This project was highly experimental,” said Rogier Vijverberg, Chief Creative Hero at SuperHeroes. “With Lenovo Yoga and AMD, we want to inspire a new generation to explore AI’s creative potential. This hybrid project shows how accessible emerging technology has become—proving that what you can imagine can now be brought to life.”
An important part of the initiative is also the “How I Made It” videos, in which the AI artists share their creative process, insights, and the challenges they’ve overcome along the way. Creativity is never a straight line, and we’re proud to share that journey as well.
The film was co-directed by Kaspar van Lierop, bringing his deep understanding of skateboard culture to the project as a sports industry leader. Van Lierop previously helped establish Nike SB’s division, built one of skateboarding’s most influential teams with SKF, and currently leads ASICS new Skateboard program, among other things.
