New campaign uses bold creative to tackle Gen Z mental health
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A new campaign out of South Carolina is taking an unconventional creative approach to address rising mental health challenges among Gen Z.

Launching April 20, the South Carolina Office of Mental Health’s Your Brain Is a Jerk campaign uses a tone described as “abrupt empathy” to disrupt negative thought patterns while maintaining a sense of compassion and relatability.

The work is rooted in the reality that younger audiences face constant comparison and critique in digital environments, contributing to harmful internal narratives. By externalizing those thoughts, the campaign encourages people to recognize and interrupt them.

The integrated effort spans radio, digital and out-of-home ahead of Mental Health Awareness Month, with messaging that also points to immediate resources like 988.
