BOULDER, Colo., — In a category obsessed with sameness, Naturally Fresh is leaning into what makes it different. The walnut shell–based cat litter brand today launches Weird is Wonderful, a category-rejecting campaign from TDA Boulder that turns so-called ‘crazy cat people’ into a badge of honor and puts an unconventional product front and center.

Launching this week and running through November 30, the campaign reframes ‘weird’ as a virtue, not a punchline. Because if you’re willing to turn walnut shells into cat litter and prove they outperform traditional options in odor control, you’re probably not interested in fitting in.

“Ordinary has never done anything interesting. Weird is what we pay attention to. Weird is what causes change,” said Jeremy Seibold, Creative Director and Partner at TDA Boulder. “Naturally Fresh has the courage to lean into what makes them different, not smooth it over. That’s rare in this category and exactly what makes this campaign work.”

Making Walnut Shells the Hero

At the center of the campaign is the product itself: cat litter made from walnut shells: unexpected and also highly effective. Rather than burying that difference under category conventions, Weird is Wonderful elevates it, positioning the walnut shell as both a performance advantage and a symbol of shared values with its audience.

“We make cat litter out of walnut shells. We were never going to be the conventional choice, and we stopped pretending otherwise.” said John Harrington, Marketing Director at Naturally Fresh. “This campaign is for every cat owner who’s proud to do things their own way.”

Turning ‘Weird’ Into a Badge of Honor

The campaign’s hero social films titled Treadmill and Happy Hour, spotlight the lengths cat owners go to for their pets, transforming behaviors often mocked by culture into something worth celebrating. In a category that defaults to rational, functional messaging, the work flips the script leading with identity and emotion while letting performance speak for itself.

Running across Meta, Pinterest, Reddit, and TikTok, with support from a network of popular cat influencers including Nimbus Siberian, Merv the Cat, Penny the Ginger Cat, Champagne Unicorns, Uno&Kat, Rigby Cat, Shakey Wobbles, and Willow the Cat, the campaign is designed to drive cultural relevance within highly engaged communities.

Weird is Wonderful marks the first work between Naturally Fresh and TDA Boulder and signals a clear departure from category norms, trading interchangeable claims for a platform rooted in shared values and perspective.
