After news broke that over 12 tons of KitKats had been stolen, the brand quickly became the focus of national headlines. But rather than simply respond, KitKat Canada saw an opportunity to own the conversation: transforming a fleeting news moment into a fully realized brand narrative: a city-wide, highly visible “security escalation,” timed to our most critical restocking moment: Easter long weekend.
Instead of treating the theft as a crisis, Courage reframed it as the inciting incident of a larger story, rooted in drama, humour, and cultural relevance.
