Innocean has crafted a uniquely Australian zombie apocalypse to highlight Kia’s range of electric vehicles (EVs), directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker François Rousselet from Division.
As competition in the EV market intensifies, Innocean turned to the zombie genre to make a memorable impact. The campaign explores an intriguing question: What would everyday life in Australia look like during a zombie apocalypse? From trips to the shops to cooling drinks and navigating eerie suburban streets, Kia’s EVs are shown as the perfect solution to thrive in such a world.
Through a mix of humor and creativity, the campaign spotlights innovative Kia features such as Remote Smart Park Assist, Cooling Storage, and Kia Voice Command, demonstrating how the EV5 and EV9 allow users to seamlessly adapt—even in a zombie-infested world.
Director François Rousselet, known for his work with John Lewis, A$AP Rocky, and the Rolling Stones, brought his signature cinematic flair to the campaign. His vision reimagines suburban Australia as a sunlit paradise turned apocalyptic playground, with more than 100 movement artists transformed into zombies.
The campaign, featuring 90-, 60-, 30-, 15-, and 10-second edits, weaves three interconnected storylines that converge at Jacaranda Plaza, a quintessentially Australian shopping center. With meticulous attention to detail, the suburban streets come alive with a mix of humor, tension, and everyday Aussie ingenuity.
Dean Norbiato, Kia Australia’s GM of Marketing, praised the campaign’s creative approach:
“A zombie apocalypse set in sunny Australian suburbia is a truly unique way to showcase Kia’s EV range. We wanted to capture the laid-back Aussie spirit and highlight how our electric vehicles could thrive in even the most unexpected scenarios.”
Nick Cole and Pat Allenby, Creative Directors at Innocean, emphasized Kia’s boldness in the EV market:
“As the EV market grows, so does Kia’s ambition to deliver bold, unexpected campaigns. With François Rousselet’s masterful direction and the hard work of our team, we’ve created an entertaining campaign that reinforces Kia’s position as a leader in electric vehicles.”
The campaign also features a star-studded Australian cast, including Luke Arnold, Tess Haubrich, and Chloe Zuel, alongside a memorable appearance by Jamie Durie, who delivered a standout performance as a “zombie tradie.”
With a mix of humor, creativity, and innovative storytelling, Kia’s zombie apocalypse campaign positions the brand’s EV range as a must-have—whether for everyday life or surviving a fictional apocalypse.
