IIGC Taskforce Strengthens Creator Accountability through Direct Engagement
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mumbai/Delhi: 01st September, 2025: The Indian Influencer Governing Council (IIGC) continues to show its commitment towards creating a credible and responsible creator economy in India by working directly with creators, providing guidance, and setting clear expectations. In just last month, the IIGC Taskforce directly contacted over 30 influencers whose content did not comply with IIGC’s Code of Standards for Influencer or with legal requirements. Many of these creators promptly updated or removed their respective content, which shows the effectiveness of early intervention.

As the influencer ecosystem continues to grow rapidly, so do the expectations for transparency, integrity, and accountability by consumers as well as the government. Influencer marketing will be worth over ₹3,000 crore in India this year, making it an integral part of the nation’s online marketplace. This huge growth brings with it more responsibility, not just for creators but also for brands and platforms that are part of the ecosystem. In response, regulators have increased their scrutiny, particularly for sectors with significant impacts on consumers, like health, wellness, and financial services.

This scrutiny from regulators is required to ensure consumer safety, but it can also be challenging for small/regional creators, navigate complex and often evolving compliance landscapes. The IIGC Taskforce complements governments’ monitoring efforts, with a focus on education, support, and getting people involved early on to prevent potential violations.

“We recognize the significant influence that creators have today, and the trust consumers place in their voices. It is up to us to make sure creators understand their responsibilities and offer them guidance and support. Education and open dialogue are the best avenues to ensure a safe, trustworthy environment,” said Sahil Chopra, Chairman, IIGC.

As regulatory attention increases, especially in high-risk sectors such as financial guidance, our Taskforce is working directly with creators to promote responsible behaviour that safeguards consumers and maintains industry integrity. Through the direct engagement of its Taskforce, IIGC offers a responsive, industry-driven system for tracking and addressing compliance problems promptly and constructively. The result is an ecosystem where creators can innovate fearlessly while maintaining trust and accountability.

The work of the IIGC Taskforce is a turning point in our effort to professionalize the creator economy and protect its consumers. By working with creators to edit or take down problematic content, the Taskforce demonstrates how proactive action can yield benefits for everyone involved, for creators, brands, consumers, and regulators.

The need for strong self-regulatory systems like IIGC will only increase as the creator economy expands and its influence on consumer choice and brand success increases. The Council remains committed to the development of its standards, outreach, and greater collaboration to create a clear, credible, and sustainable influencer environment in India.
