IAPI manage the Irish Cannes Young Lions competition
IAPI has announced the seven Cannes Young Lions teams that have been selected, following an intensive, two round judging process, to represent Ireland at what is referred to as the ‘Oscars of Advertising’: Cannes Lions.
Cannes Young Lions is a creative competition that provides young talent in the advertising, marketing and communications industry the opportunity to compete at national, and then global level against their peers. As the Festival Representatives for Ireland, IAPI manage the Irish Cannes Young Lions competition and each year hundreds of talented young professionals take part.
“This is one of my highlights of the IAPI year. The standard is always astounding, and I have every confidence that the Cannes Young Lions winners this year will do us proud in the global competition this Summer”, says Charley Stoney, CEO, IAPI. “Not only does this programme highlight young talent but it also benefits our chosen charities, who all receive a huge range of terrific concepts and fund-raising ideas for their cause. IAPI are grateful to be able to support such worthwhile charities – some of whom would not otherwise have the resources to conceptualise, develop or run campaigns of this nature.”
This feelgood factor is clearly one of the reasons why young talent in the industry take part. The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is one of the charities chosen this year and they will see their film produced pro bono, courtesy of Pull the Trigger and aired for free, courtesy of Sky Ireland. Social Entrepreneurs Ireland will see the winning press ad come to life in print, courtesy of DMG Media. The third charity, The Open Community, has also obtained a range of PR and Digital concepts to help them plan their communications this year. IAPI would like to express their thanks to all competition sponsors this year without whom this would not be possible as they provide the time, support and funds necessary to bring this to fruition – Pull the Trigger, Sky Ireland, PRII/PRCA, Smurfit Kappa, Core, Meta, DMG Media, and Radio Centre Ireland.
Each team of two gets 48 hours to respond to a brief for one of the charities as listed above and their submissions were scored by five judges remotely. Those shortlisted at this stage were then asked to present to the judges in Round Two.
