Entropico, the trailblazing creative studio with bases in Los Angeles and Sydney, unveils its latest project for YouTube, “A Drag Adventure Story.” This groundbreaking project for YouTube delves deep into the transformative journey of the drag community within the digital realm of the platform. Featuring the iconic personas of renowned drag performers and respected YouTube creators, Trixie Mattel and Juno Birch, “A Drag Adventure Story” stands as a beacon of celebration for queer perspectives, artistic ingenuity, and inclusive representation.
In response to the project brief, Entropico embarked on a mission to tell the compelling story of drag creators and their transformative impact on YouTube. “Over the years, drag channels have become a gateway to a world of diverse voices and experiences, and Entropico sought to capture this journey in a fun, engaging, and entertaining manner,” shares Christian Polsinelli, Head of Experiential & Alternative at Entropico.
The creative details of the project are as intricate as the art form it celebrates. YouTube’s “A Drag Adventure Story” seamlessly combines live-action footage, user-generated content, and bespoke animation to create a vibrant tapestry of drag culture. This fusion of elements presented technical challenges that Entropico navigated with precision, working closely with specialized editors and animators to ensure a seamless visual experience.
Sele Leota, creative lead at Entropico, shared insights into the project’s significance: “I’m Samoan and our version of drag shows (Fa’afafine beauty pageants) were a huge part of my upbringing so I’m always excited for the chance to get to work on something fun with drag performers. Capturing the spirit of a community with a vast diaspora can be a challenge in any creative work, but I think we’ve done a great job partnering with incredible talent and our client YouTube to create a love letter to this community that hopes to be as colorful, humorous, and imaginative as the work they create.”
The project’s production schedule spanned approximately three months, including creative development, a single shoot day, and vast post-production and animation efforts. Shot on Red V-Raptor Cameras, “A Drag Adventure Story” employed a range of software tools, including Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, After Effects, Cinema 4D, and Resolve, to bring its vision to life.
Entropico’s capability to authentically represent and proudly celebrate diverse communities like drag culture stems from its unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. With team members from various ages, genders, ethnicities, and identities, including representation from LGBTQ+ and AAPI communities, Entropico’s insights are enriched by its inclusivity, enabling it to create impactful and resonant projects like “A Drag Adventure Story.”
“A Drag Adventure Story” is and will continue to be prominently featured on YouTube’s platform, serving as a vibrant celebration of drag culture and its enduring influence.
