The first spot, “Hosting”, showcases Dr. Rick helping young homeowners with timely summer advice like what not to do when hosting a backyard BBQ such as cleaning up before your guests are even finished or wearing “punny” grilling aprons with pride. The spot showcases a couple hosting their first party and all of the “parentamorphosis” pitfalls that come with it. The brand coined the term “Parentamorphosis” a while back meaning: when young people buy their first home and adopt the behaviors of their parents.
In “Weather”, Dr. Rick highlights one of the most relatable parental behaviors, being weather obsessed. The commercial features multiple young homeowners unnecessarily concerned with flood warnings in far away states and mentioning things like “atmospheric river” or “dew point” while marveling at the weather channel’s “unbelievable” use of green screens.
The spot ends with the voiceover: “Progressive can’t save you from becoming your parents, but we can save you money when you bundle your home & auto with us.” Both commercials are now airing nationally on TV.
Since making his first appearance in “Group Session” in 2017, the Dr. Rick character continues to resonate with consumers. It was awarded a Bronze Lion at Cannes 2024 and continues to be recognized by the industry and consumers alike.
