Burger King Brazil is playfully arguing that a location with actual volcanic activity should bear the name of a place that serves food cooked over real flames. Rather than acknowledging its rival, this secluded retreat in the Indian Ocean, inhabited by penguins, ice, and plenty of lava, is being proposed to be renamed Whopper Island to honor BK’s flame-grilled burger.
Crafted and executed by agency DM9, the campaign presents a mockumentary-style film that explores the breathtaking island nestled between Madagascar and Antarctica. The film aims to win over the island’s custodians with a sizzling Whopper.
As part of the activation, consumers are encouraged to join the movement for the name change by visiting Google Maps, searching for “Ilha Whopper” to locate the island, and sharing their thoughts using the hashtag #IlhaWhopper. While this action might influence geographical nomenclature, it also promises a Whopper discount coupon for participants.
