BigStar Appoints Doug Appleton as Creative Director

NEW YORK, March 18, 2026 — BigStar, the New York-based, award-winning motion design studio, has announced Doug Appleton is joining the team in the role of Creative Director. A seasoned director, designer, and animator with over 15 years in the motion graphics and VFX industry, Appleton joins BigStar at a pivotal moment, bringing the kind of creative depth and artistic leadership that will push the studio’s work, and its people, further than ever. 

At BigStar, Appleton will focus on deepening the studio’s disciplinary blend and expanding its creative leadership across film, entertainment and brand marketing. His approach centers on concept-driven decision-making and finding creative choices that are rooted in the project’s identity to elevate the work beyond aesthetics alone. 

Appleton joins BigStar after 15 years at Perception, a celebrated creative studio known for its work integrating technology into their film and television work He has made a career of directing high profile projects, including the title sequence for Academy Award–winning Best Picture Sinners, and earned an Emmy nomination for his work on WandaVision. He has also applied his craft to UI/UX and motion design to functional technology for some of the world’s biggest brands, giving him a rare fluency in both narrative and functional creative work.
