Coulson’s appointment comes after the recent departure of joint Chief Creative Officers Mandie van der Merwe and Avish Gordhan, who left for Saatchi & Saatchi Australia after serving in the role for 11 months.
Throughout Coulson’s career, he has held various positions across North America, the UK, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. He is widely recognized as one of Australia’s most acclaimed creative leaders in the past decade. Coulson has achieved top-five rankings among Chief Creative Officers (CCOs) at the Cannes Festival twice and has been listed in the top ten CCOs globally in The Won Report.
Coulson’s previous roles include being the Chief Creative Officer at HERO/McCann, Clemenger BBDO, VMLY&R, and George Patterson, with each agency earning the title of Agency of the Year multiple times.
His extensive experience spans numerous renowned brands, including Tourism Australia, Telstra, Qantas, Toyota, Cadbury, Coca-Cola, Frucor Suntory, Burger King, Schweppes, Corona, Carlton United Breweries, AFL, Australian Defence Force, Mastercard, Visa, Menulog, Microsoft, eBay, Unilever, GSK, Monash Uni, Melbourne Uni, Wrigley’s, Cottees, Mars, and Vegemite.
Coulson has earned accolades such as Cannes and D&AD Agency of the Year titles, three ANZ Network of the Year awards at Cannes and Spikes, and the most awarded agency in APAC at the One Show. He has also received multiple Grand Prix, Best of Show, and Grand Effies, in addition to numerous Agency of the Year titles from Campaign Brief, Adnews, B&T, and AWARD.
Coulson is enthusiastic about joining Dentsu Creative in December, citing the agency’s capacity to deliver creativity beyond traditional methods and its growing global network.
