Fans of devices with a retro touch will be delighted with the latest release from 8BitDo, a company specialized in gaming accessories. It’s their first retro mechanical keyboard, available in two exciting color variants.
Users can choose between the “N Edition,” based on the color scheme of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), or the “Fami Edition,” inspired by the Nintendo Famicom, which includes Japanese characters beneath the English letters on each key.
Priced at $99.99, the keyboard is now available for pre-order on Amazon and the company’s official website, with shipments scheduled to start on August 10th.
Highlighting the inclusion of two programmable macro buttons, users can connect them via cable to the keyboard, equipped with Gateron Green switches that provide a secure and precise typing experience.
The keyboard also offers additional ports to connect up to three additional pairs of macro buttons, available for purchase at $19.99 per pair.
Moreover, the keyboard is compatible with various platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Android. While macOS compatibility isn’t explicitly mentioned, the company has confirmed that it works with this operating system as well.
For wireless use, the keyboard features a 2000mAh battery that provides approximately 200 hours of usage per charge, with a full charge completing in four hours.
The estimated battery life is five weeks of use for five days a week, with 8 hours of usage per day. Additionally, the keyboard uses Kailh Box White V2 switches, which can be independently replaced on-the-fly.
To complete the retro experience, the keyboard includes a dial on the upper left side for volume adjustment and a light indicator that signals when it’s operational.
With this new release, enthusiasts can add a personal and nostalgic touch to their workspaces or gaming sessions while enjoying the unique functionality and aesthetics that 8BitDo’s retro mechanical keyboard offers.
