72 and Sunny has been appointed as the creative partner for Taco Bell in Australia following a competitive pitch.

The fast-food chain re-entered the Australian market in 2017 and has since expanded to 27 restaurants. Its marketing function is run by its two franchise partners, Restaurant Brands Australia and Collins Foods.

As part of its remit, 72 and Sunny will be responsible for all of the fast food company’s creative strategy and integrated communications.

The move marks a ramping up of marketing for the brand, with Taco Bell having named Speed as its media partner last June.

Restaurant Brands Australia’s Ben Simmons, GM marketing and operations, said: “We were looking for a partner that could help Taco Bell disrupt the fast-food category in a youthful and cool way whilst also driving sales. 72andSunny have a real understanding of modern Australia and share our growth mindset.”

David Timm, CMO Collins Foods commented: “72andSunny brought the right blend of category and global experience to how they think about strategy, creative and process that felt like a great fit for our business.”

72 and Sunny Sydney Ross Berthinussen added: “Both Taco Bell and 72andSunny are built on the spirit of optimism. We’re looking forward to building a relationship that can lead to epic results through epic work.”

Luke Martin, ECD at 72 and Sunny, said: “We love Taco Bell’s ambition to really embrace youth culture. It’s a brand that’s always shown up in innovative ways overseas, we’re looking forward to bringing that energy to Australia.”

It is the latest in a number of client wins by 72 and Sunny, having won MyDeal last September. That same month, the agency expanded its team with four hires, including Genevieve Hoey as creative consultant.
