As Canvas Worldwide heads into its 10th anniversary this January, the agency is celebrating with a holiday film that doubles as a hilariously hazy oral history of its beginnings. Tipsy Tales of Canvas: Day One is a “Drunk History”-inspired short — reimagined with a Canvas twist — that pokes fun at the agency’s scrappy early days while honoring how far it has come.
The concept was developed by Aaron Anderson, Canvas Worldwide’s Head of Marketing and Business Development, and brought to life by director/editor Adriano Valentini of Adriano Valentini Productions. True to Canvas’ “OneCanvas” culture, the film features an entirely in-house cast and production team (other than Valentini).
Narration comes from Terra Fernandez and Raul Tafur, two day-one employees and close friends who’ve been with Canvas since the doors first opened. Their insider memories are literally reenacted by members of the Canvas team — who play humorous, over-the-top versions of the C-Suite in true reenactment fashion — and showcase that while we’re serious about our work, we never take ourselves too seriously… seriously.
Throughout the short, viewers will catch playful reenactments of Canvas’ original leaders — including Chief Product Officer Greg Johns, who’s also known as the SVP/EVP/VPPP team of Doing Everything. Another scene gives a wink to Chief Operating Officer Keuk Kim, who helped open Canvas on day one before briefly heading off to serve as CEO of Innocean Italy — and eventually boomeranging back to Canvas (as many others have done, too!).
And in true holiday-movie fashion, the film caps off with a magical twist: an appearance from founding CEO Paul Woolmington (our very own “magic man”!), bringing the whole wild origin story home!
Marketers love working with Canvas because of the people working at Canvas. This short’s delightfully-unreliable retelling spotlights the quirkiness and camaraderie that has shaped our agency’s first decade and makes Canvas such a special place to be!
