One 97 Communications Ltd, the parent company of Paytm, has announced the promotion of Bhavesh Gupta as the President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the popular payment app. This appointment was disclosed in the company’s filings with the stock exchange.
Gupta brings with him extensive experience as a banker, spanning over two decades, during which he has spearheaded the digital transformation efforts of several prominent retail banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) in the country. Prior to joining Paytm, he served as the CEO and Founding Member of Clix Capital, formerly known as GE Capital India. During his tenure, Gupta focused on establishing a well-diversified NBFC that specialized in digital consumer and MSME lending, as well as urban affordable housing. By leveraging state-of-the-art technology and analytics, he successfully delivered streamlined, rapid, innovative, and personalized solutions to customers. Before his time at Clix Capital, Gupta held the position of Founding Member and Head of SME & Business Banking at IDFC First Bank for two years. Additionally, he spent over a decade at ICICI Bank, where he played a senior role in both retail banking, encompassing liabilities and lending.
According to One 97 Communications’ filings, Gupta’s new responsibilities as President and COO entail overseeing various sectors, including lending, insurance, offline and online payments, as well as consumer payments. Furthermore, he will lead initiatives related to user growth, operational risk, fraud risk, and compliance.
